Meet Little Laurie!
Little Laurie is a curious girl who loves learning about the world around her. Along with her supportive mom and her pal, Doddle the Pig, Litte Laurie is on a quest to understand why things are the way they are.
Little Laurie’s Science Stories are designed to answer the questions that early readers, from toddlers through grade 3, have about the world around them. The stories also serve as a resource for parents and educators to foster scientific curiosity in the children in their care while aligning with NGSS science standards.
The first volume, “The Day the Sun Forgot to Wake,” is now available on Amazon as both a paperback and Kindle edition.
This science storybook will help children better understand how the relationship between the earth and the sun create day and night, including some fun, developmentally appropriate games and experiments.
The story and activities in “The Day the Sun Forgot To Wake” are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and the book includes resources to help with inclusion in classroom lesson plans.

Little Laurie is a 6-year-old girl who loves asking questions about the world around her. In fact, she wants to grow up to be a scientist! In this first installment of the Little Laurie’s Science Stories series, Little Laurie and her pal Doodle the stuffed pig start off having a bad day, only to discover that the next morning is EVEN WORSE…. because the sun forgot to come up!
Fortunately, Little Laurie’s mom is there to explain what’s happening. Mom uses a simple science experiment that kids can duplicate at home to show Little Laurie how the earth rotates to create day and night. This book uses the Open Dyslexic font to support all readers, and includes notes for educators regarding the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) that might be appropriate when using this resource in the classroom to support elementary science education.
